What was the inspiration for your geocaching name?

It is my middle name and last initial for my last name.

Why did you decide to try geocaching?

My best friend had heard about geocaching in 2010 and we tried the first few together. Since then, my parents, sister and my girlfriend are just some of the people I have been fortunate enough to cache with and all of them make it a better experience every time.

What cache were you after?  What did you expect to find?

The first cache was a travel bug hotel near the capitol building in Baton Rouge.  After we found it, we walked the nearby area and found two more.  I guess we expected to find some type of treasure chest filled with pirate booty and the ammo can we found was stocked!

Everyone has a Geocaching “big fish” story about the hunt that was much more than you expected at the start. What is yours?

I guess I have two…

The first one happened on vacation in Florida around Thanksgiving with the same friend (orangevulpes) who introduced me to caching.  It had been a couple years since I/we had done some cache and we were in Pensacola with only 2 days before we were to leave.  We decided to try their geotour (I only had about 10-20 finds at this point).  We found less than half of the 20 something caches required the first day so we stayed up plotting the points and figured out the best route for the next day.  We finished just in the nick of time to get the geocoin from the visitor’s center and I was hooked at that point!

The second story was when I was headed to my first large LGO event GC61C31 in 2015.  My family and I passed through Jonesboro while getting a few caches on the way and tried to start a multi GC5KXXF.  We found stage one and it sent us in a direction that would have needed to backtrack to get, so we decided to continue to the event and maybe get it on the way back.  Well, stage 1 was so “interesting” that I could not get it out of my mind and of course continued the rest of the stages when we finished the event on the way home.  It was my first longer (4 stage) multi and still is one of my favorite caches to this point.  The final container and location just made me smile when we found it.

What is your Geocaching EDC (Everyday carry)?  What gear do you have to have with you

Pen, iPhone and a good 4×4.

What is the most memorable thing you’ve seen or found while caching?

California back country via biking with my sister when we were able to walk up to a family of deer or doing the geotour in Montana with my girlfriend where the locals helped us find views and places we would not have seen by ourselves.

What cache is on your Bucket List?

I would like to cache in all states and few foreign countries and of course do all the geotours that are out there!  But for caches, probably just the last ape cache in Brazil or the multi (about 30 stages) in Central Park New York City.

Any other hobbies?

Jeeps and just about anything outdoorsy.

Anything else you would like to say?

The geotours I have completed have been the most fun part so far.  It allows you to search out a newer area and more than likely, the caches are well maintained.
